Shark Attack

As I was listening to KNBR today, Mr. T brought up an interesting blog by the Washington Wizards' Gilbert Arenas (former Warrior, fyi-- he's my height but has a 6'11'' wingspan!). Get this...

We’re humans. We live on land.

Sharks live in water.

So if you’re swimming in the water and a shark bites you, that’s called trespassing. That is called trespassing. That is not a shark attack.

A shark attack is if you’re chilling at home, sitting on your couch, and a shark comes in and bites you; now that’s a shark attack. Now, if you’re chilling in the water, that is called invasion of space. So I have never heard of a shark attack.

Although the hosts seemed to think he was a little ridiculous and just making a joke, I think Arenas is so on the money with this one. I believe this speaks to how the media can portray something in such a way to make us think only one way. Before Arenas' notion, I never even thought about the idea of a shark attack. Sure, this might be a petty and insignificant example (who really cares whether its called an attack or something else?), but it sure does make you think what else the media has portrayed in such a way that we don't even think twice about it. Call me crazy, but I think this is also a good lesson for the church.
